And makeup is what you need to think about in the very first place. However, even if you are not planning a studio shoot, but an event with a photo is planned – a conference, an anniversary, or maybe a wedding, then in any case, the make-up should be special: the one that looks most appropriate and effective in the photo. In this article, we will tell you how to do makeup for a photo shoot on your own, without the help of a professional makeup artist!

Makeup for a photo shoot: how to do it right?

Since the camera "eats" up to 30% of the color intensity, make-up for photography should be created a little brighter than usual, and the emphasis should be on both the eyes and lips. In any case, makeup should also be as durable as possible: especially when it comes to professional photos. Under studio lighting and spotlights, almost any makeup begins to “flow". Therefore, all cosmetics used should be as resistant as possible.

To begin with, it is very important to properly prepare the skin for makeup. Cleanse your face with gel, apply toner and cream. Do a light facial massage, starting from the center of the forehead, chin, nose and moving to the contours. This will help improve blood circulation and tone the skin further. Apply moisturizer. Distribute the cream along the massage lines without stretching the skin. Also, for fifteen to twenty minutes, you can apply special hydrogel patches to the area around the eyes, which will moisturize and tighten the skin well.

When doing makeup for a photo shoot, make sure that there is no extra shine on the skin. Natural glow is good, but in the case of photo shoots, it should be present only on the “necessary” areas. Apply a pea-sized amount of mattifying primer to those areas of the face where oily sheen first appears (T-zone, center of the chin). So you do not have to constantly powder it and weigh down the skin with extra layers of cosmetics. Distribute the makeup base in the same way as the moisturizer. Very important: choose a base without a sun protection factor. Components that are responsible for protecting from the sun, as a rule, glare quite strongly in flashes. And also, before a photo shoot, in the process of preparing for makeup, do not apply serum to your face and do not use masks, especially with a greasy texture.

Apply an illuminating primer locally on the skin – on those areas where the maximum reflection of light occurs (cheekbones, sides of the face, "back" of the nose and chin). Your task is to give the skin a delicate glow.

Using a brush or special sponge, apply foundation all over the face, paying particular attention to areas along the hairline. This way you will not create a mask effect. Adjust the degree of coverage yourself. It is important that the foundation is 100% matched to your skin tone so that the skin tone of the face does not differ from the skin tone of the neck. Make sure there are no stripes or streaks.

Cover redness, breakouts, and other visible imperfections with a concealer. Do not forget to apply it on the "wings" of the nose and nasolabial folds. Work the area under the eyes well with concealer. Here the concealer can just be reflective. Too matte concealers clog into mimic wrinkles, due to this, the skin looks drier and more tired.

Cover the skin with finishing powder using a large natural bristle brush. It is important that the powder is transparent, while not reflective.

Correction is an extremely important step in makeup for a photo shoot. The fact is that with a dense, fairly opaque foundation, we kind of erase the natural reliefs of the face. Now, with the help of a powder sculpting agent, they need to be returned. We take a small brush made of natural pile, a gray-brown sculptor, blend the product under the cheekbones towards the temples, on the side surfaces of the nose, on the side surfaces of the forehead, under the lower lip, along the contours of the face. The protruding parts of the face can be highlighted with a light highlighter powder or a shining luminizer. We apply the luminizer on the upper part of the cheekbones, the tip of the nose, Cupid's bow, under the eyebrows and in the inner corners of the eyes. We apply blush on the “apples” of the cheeks, shade well, again, towards the temples. This technique will create a lifting effect.

Shaping eyebrows. They need to be made a little brighter than in everyday makeup. This is best done with a thin brush and brow pomade. Add texture to the hair with brow mascara: this way the eyebrows will become more voluminous and natural. Don't forget to define your brows with a concealer brush. So the makeup will be more accurate.

Further actions depend on what accents you want to make in makeup. If on the lips – then first draw the contour of the lips with a pencil, and then apply lipstick, better – matte. It is matte lips that look extremely impressive in the photo.

If you plan to focus on the eyes, then first, be sure to apply a primer: it will make the makeup more saturated and persistent. Everything else depends on your ideas and imagination. If you plan to take black and white pictures, then it is best to draw arrows, and not, for example, smoky eyes: they look more impressive in photographs.

How to do makeup for a photo shoot?
