Complete honesty in relationships: pros and cons

15

The main thing in a relationship is trust and it is almost impossible to argue with this thesis. It is trust that is what any relationship is based on, even love, even friendship, and even work. But still, we believe that trust should not be confused with 100% honesty and openness. After all, you probably have some details in life with which you would not want to share even with the closest and beloved man, and it's not even about betrayal and adultery, but about elementary personal space. Let's try to understand the issue.

Let's make a small spoiler: in fact, the issues of honesty in a relationship are simply extremely subjective and individual. Here, as with partner childbirth: for some, no other options are acceptable, and someone cannot even think about seeing their man in the delivery room. Exactly the same here. Honesty is not only about cheating, which you don’t want to know about, but you need to. Sometimes it becomes a problem to be constantly “in touch" when you report to each other about all the movements. And some couples even start one for two accounts on social networks. Or choose a format not for the faint of heart: the so-called "emotional transparency". This is when partners agree to lay out frankly everything that causes emotions – both positive and negative. Unfortunately, this can lead to quarrels, almost out of the blue.

On the other hand, sincerity is certainly good. Yes, and constant communication in a couple is also, of course, correct: it allows you to identify what is not on the surface. The main thing here is to correctly read the signals in order to maintain a fair balance, characteristic of a serious relationship. Again, 100% honesty can only come about when you have 100% trust in your partner and know that they won't press on their weakest points. The truth is that life is not a resort, but the sincerity offered by a partner often means the manifestation of manipulative behavior that serves one-sided interests.

Once again, honesty is good. And among other things, a great way to understand that every person is complex, conflicted and imperfect. Managing extreme honesty is difficult at first, especially if you don't like to appear vulnerable or angry, but the inevitable growth of trust strengthens almost every aspect of a relationship. Here it is very important to work out a kind of stop words: to mark the boundaries, after which neither you nor your partner can develop a complex topic further.

As you can see, the question is extremely ambiguous. Therefore, it is very important to agree in advance with your partner what part of your life is subject to discussion, and what, in any case, remains in the format of a personal space that cannot be crossed. For example, these may be questions related to certain aspects of health, personal life from the past, questions related to friends, wages: each couple chooses boundaries for themselves.

And we believe that real, one hundred percent honesty lies precisely in this: not in the exact knowledge of what happens to a loved one every day, even at this particular moment, but in the knowledge of which pain points should never be touched – and still inviolable to them.

We are sure that one hundred percent honesty in relationships is not about spiritual striptease and not about physiology, but about trust and care for each other.
