History of the Nike brand
Appearing on the market a new brand or a newly “born” company, it can occupy a new niche, or it can win it back from competitors by offering consumers a better product or a more profitable service. The Nike brand used both options to enter the global market back in 1964. Currently, the network of Nike branded stores is very wide, so everyone can purchase high-quality shoes from this brand. The modern Nike catalog is so diverse that it can satisfy the needs of even the most sophisticated and demanding athletes.
The history of the creation of the Nike brand began when an athlete, sprinter and at the same time a successful student at the University of Oregon Phil Knight and his coach Bill Bowerman created an ingenious and very practical scheme for selling inexpensive and high-quality shoes. Phil then signed a contract with the Japanese company Onitsuka for a series of sneaker shipments to the US. Nike's first office was an ordinary garage, and the very first sneaker sales were carried out from Phil Knight's van right on the street. At the time, Knight and Bill's firm was known as Blue Ribbon Sports.
Soon they were joined by another very talented person – an experienced sales manager named Jeff Johnson. Using his accumulated knowledge and applying a special approach, he helped increase sales of products. It was Johnson who changed the name of the company from Blue Ribbon Sports to Nike, naming it after the winged goddess of victory.
5 years after the founding of the company in 1971, a logo was developed that is still used today. The famous "stroke" Nike or the wing of the goddess of victory was invented by Carolina Davidson, a student at the University of Portland, who received a rather modest fee of $ 30 for its creation.
Legendary innovation
Two ingenious inventions that occurred in the history of Nike brought particular success to the brand and high popularity of all its products. The first growth spurt occurred in 1975. It was then that Bill Bowerman came up with the grooved sole, now famous all over the world. And his wife's waffle iron helped him in this. This innovation allowed Nike to become the leader in sales of its products and become the best-selling shoe in the United States.
4 years later, in 1979, another innovation appeared – an air cushion built into the sole and significantly extending the life of the sneaker. The innovation was invented by aeronautical engineer Frank Rudy, thanks to him the world-famous, legendary Nike Air series of sneakers was created.
Today, the Nike brand is a symbol of sports and health, and the history of its creation proves that everything in life is possible! "Just do it" – you just need to go and do it!
