The history of jeans
We must begin with the fact that a Jew named Leiba Strauss came to America in 1853. On the ship he sailed for convenience, he was given the nickname Levi Strauss. After the death of his father, Levi, unlike his brothers, inherited only a piece of canvas. In order not to die of starvation, he decided to use his father's inheritance by offering tailoring of tents to order for gold miners. Hearing about the offer, one hard worker said that in good pants you can spend the night under a tree.
But Levi, who had never sewed pants before, but only watched his father, decided to just try to sew them. And the same hard worker turned out to be the happy owner of pants called jeans from Levi Strauss! He charged $1 and 20 cents for the jeans (an unusually high price in those days). Levi gave his brother half the amount for scissors and thread. It immediately became clear that the work was worth such pants! These first pants, sewn in modern times for a penny, radically turned the whole fashion upside down. The same hard worker was so delighted with the purchase that he very soon brought the next client to Levi. Other workers also wanted to wear miracle pants, which fit perfectly and were very durable. The fabric was brown, and the pants were well made.
A year later, in San Francisco, Levi Strauss opened his pants shop on Battery Street, and took in his assistants his brothers, who had once done to him, very cruelly leaving Levi with almost no inheritance. Levy improved and modernized his product and promoted it to the masses. Jeans got deep front and back pockets, belt loops and a noticeable double stitching, for which jeans are famous to this day. When the canvas ran out, he sewed jeans from poor cotton fabric – blue twill. The fabric was made in France. And they delivered it from the port of Genoa and on the bales there was the inscription "Genoese", which the Americans read as "Jeans".
In 1860, Jacob Davies reinforced pockets with horse harness rivets, but he was only able to patent this with Levi Strauss. In 1889 Levi's jeans cost $22. In the same year saw the release of a leather label, with two horses. Jeans revolutionized the world in the 1960s.
Denim clothing came into fashion, and everyone began to sew it. In the USSR, they learned about jeans only in 1957, and since then this clothing has been, perhaps, in the first place.
