How to improve memory?
Study, study and study again – here it is, a very good motto in life. In fact, of course, constant learning is an opportunity to provide yourself with excellent career prospects, good spirits, and also a really interesting pastime. You can study anything: from foreign languages and programming languages to the art of the Renaissance. But what to do if memory fails and, either because of fatigue, or out of habit, it no longer works as well as at school or university? We have prepared for you some tips and life hacks that will help you improve your memory and your ability to memorize.
Improve memory: basic ways
- Meditation. In fact, this is the key to success. Even if you think you have a good memory and can easily multitask, you should try meditation. Meditation helps to streamline thoughts, neutralize anxiety: when memorizing, in this way, you will simply have nothing to be distracted by.
- Get enough sleep. Often it is lack of sleep that affects the ability to quickly memorize new information and they categorically interfere with this ability. If you are depriving yourself of sleep or just not getting enough sleep, then it's time to fix it. Sleep and memory are closely related. If your life is busy but you regularly lack sleep, it will negatively affect your cognitive functions.
- Challenge your brain. The more you try to study and remember information, the more effectively and progressively your memory will improve. Regular brain training will strengthen neural connections and improve mental abilities. Do not let the brain “dry out", the more you load it, the more new information it will perceive and remember. Constantly training the brain and giving it a load is just as important as in sports – training muscles.
- Take more breaks. And yes, give your brain a rest. A constant, intense load will only contribute to emotional burnout and further apathy. Regular breaks will help keep you productive and creative. New information is assimilated precisely in those moments when you rest. People who have to learn a lot of information tend to try to learn and remember everything faster, but extended study sessions only worsen your memory. That is why it is worth optimally distributing your load: so that you have enough time to study new information, and for passive rest, and for active rest. Scientists have proven that new information is fixed when the brain is resting.
- Learn a new language. This is almost the best exercise to improve memory. Start learning a new language. And this is not necessarily a foreign language, you can start learning some programming language. This is a great way to maintain and develop your cognitive functions. So you will build new associative chains, get used to certain algorithms.
- Start exercising. No matter how actively you study and whatever your incentive is to memorize a new array of information as quickly as possible, in no case do not forget about outdoor activities and sports. During exercise, blood circulation improves throughout the body, the brain is supplied with more oxygen and nutrients. A brain that gets everything it needs works much better. You can choose from classes in the gym, as well as dancing, yoga, Pilates. The main thing is that the types of load – mental and physical – alternate.
- Start eating right. Eat more protein, fatty sea fish, greens, vegetables, fruits. Fatty foods, fast food and cholesterol do not contribute to the quality of the brain.
- Eliminate all distractions when you receive new information. Put your smartphone away, do not monitor social networks, do not need to listen to music in the background.
