A child with a disability in the family: the prescribed benefits and principles of organizing life and relationships

12

The lack of sufficient information in our country on the adaptation of parents and their way out of a behavioral impasse leads to horrific consequences. A large percentage of divorces, scandals between spouses, unwillingness to come to terms with reality, helplessness and a vision of the future in gloomy colors – this is not a complete list of problems arising from the information barrier. Very often, parents do not seek help from a psychologist at all and try to cope with their experiences on their own. This sometimes leads to the fact that the child ends up in a boarding school. This happens not because the parents are so "evil", but because no one taught them how to act, how to think, how to cope with this task. Here we are adults, and when we were children, how many disabled friends did we have? Well, not much, if not none at all. And the percentage of such children, by the way, quite large. A person is arranged in such a way that if he has experience in something, then he easily rotates in this area, and if there is no experience, then he gets into a dead end. As you can see, everything is very simple.

Disabled in himself should not be an outcast

Many experts advise in dealing with a disabled child to adhere to quite ordinary, but sometimes so difficult rules.

Let’s consider some of them:

  • you have a disabled child in your family. He is the same as everyone else, no different from healthy brothers, sisters and you. Most importantly, he must see it by the way they treat him;
  • do not feel sorry for him so that he feels his inferiority. At consultations with family psychologists, this problem is often revealed, which can lead to depression in the child;
  • the child must participate in the life of the family, he must have rights and obligations;
  • make sure he has peer interaction and a social life, at least with the help of the internet this is pretty easy to do. Freedom and independence in decision-making are very important;
  • learn from the experience of those people who have a disabled person in the family. You should find time to communicate on these topics, this will help you easily cope with the problems that arise. Join the appropriate social groups, and you will immediately feel the difference in your inner state before and after;
  • if you engage in soul-searching and constant blaming yourself for all the troubles and mistakes, then your child will certainly see and feel it. In addition, he will begin to blame himself for your depressed state, and you will not even understand the reasons for his depression. You must remember that you are raising a person who must fully prepare to enter adulthood, and there is no place for regrets and reflections on the vicissitudes of fate in your life.

Disabled child in the family: benefits you need to know about

It’s no secret that in order to live normally in society and the state, a person must be legally literate. If there is a disabled child in the family, then it becomes doubly important for his parents in order to get the maximum benefit from the assistance that the state is ready to offer their child.

So, in accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation, and in particular with the Federal Law "On the social protection of disabled people in the Russian Federation" dated November 24, 1995, No. 181-FZ, certain benefits are established for disabled children:

  • the opportunity to receive medicines and means of medical rehabilitation free of charge according to the prescriptions of doctors and medical indications;
  • a disabled child and a person accompanying him/her have the right to use free transportation to and from the place of treatment once a year;
  • when applying to the health authorities at the place of residence, you can get free sanatorium-resort vouchers for disabled children and their accompanying persons in the presence of such medical indicators;
  • in sanatorium treatment, if individual patient care is required (under the age of 18 and according to medical indications), one of the parents (guardian, trustee) has the right to receive a temporary disability certificate for the duration of the child’s treatment and travel to and from the place;
  • 50% discount for one round trip at any time of the year on intercity lines of railway, air, road and river transport and the same discount for an unlimited number of trips from October 1 to May 15;
  • the right to free travel on all types of urban and suburban transport (except taxis) is also distributed to the accompanying person;
  • the right to additional living space in the form of a separate room in accordance with the list of diseases approved by the Government of the Russian Federation;
  • when living in houses of the state, municipal and public fund, a 50% discount is established for paying for an apartment and utilities (in any housing fund);
  • the right to receive proper care under the condition of an incomplete family (there is no father or mother) by obtaining a deferment from the army for the brother of a disabled child, as well as by receiving one of the parents (guardian, trustee) 4 additional days a month (these days can be divided between parents according to their discretion);
  • the possibility of admission out of competition to state and municipal educational institutions of secondary and higher professional education, subject to successful passing of exams and the absence of contraindications according to the conclusion of the ITU.

Here are just a small part of the benefits provided by law to a child with a disability, as well as to those who care for him. We must not forget that he has and must enjoy all the rights granted to him, therefore, parents need to constantly monitor the current legislation in order to provide the best treatment, rehabilitation and care that the state will help to implement.
